The order went on to state that since the citizens' direct interface with the BMC is through its ward offices, they should possess details of all work and contracts the civic body gives.
Days of citizens getting fooled by pay and park contractors may just end. If the contractors demand wrong charges or provide fake receipts, citizens will be able to catch them since information on pay and park will soon be available online. The state information commission (SIC) has directed the municipal commissioner to provide information on all the BMC pay and park slots on the internet. This will also cover private parking slots that BMC runs.

After taking cognisance of intranet and internet facility available with the corporation, the order went on to direct BMC to make sure that they have all the information. The order asked assistant municipal commissioners to coordinate properly with the ward and central agencies to make sure that the system works.
The order was passed by state chief information commissioner Ratnakar Gaikwad on an application of Bhaskar Prabhu, a resident of Dadar. Prabhu, who runs Mahiti Adhikar Manch, an NGO that looks and create awareness and usage of RTI, had filed an application to conduct social audit pay and parks as part of its social audit policy.
Prabhu had sought informaiton on pay and park and penalty levied on contractors.
"Information was denied to me because contractors are charging heavily at different rates at different places. No one knows about the norms. Plots should be painted properly and complaint register should be there for people to complain. We will publish this and our volunteers will audit the area once we get information," said Prabhu.
