In a major digital move to give the Mumbaikars a hassle-free experience while paying their electricity bills, Tata Power has introduced a mobile software application. The app, a first-of-its-kind launched in city, also allows its users to scan the QR code on electricity bills and make an instant payment.
The bill details, including the payable amount, will flash on the mobile screen through the app. In one of the two freshly introduced systems, called the Dynamic Bharat QR, a consumer can authorise the payment through debit/credit card. However, by opting for the alternate solution, called the UPI-linked QR, a consumer can pay the bill through online banking. The facility could be availed by logging onto the Tata Power's web portal.
In both cases, the consumer and bill numbers will be auto-captured and, once the payment is made, a system-generated unique transaction receipt will be flash on the screen.
The service will provide safer payment options to the consumers. Currently, Tatas supply electricity to over 5 lakh households across city and suburbs. It has a tie-up with BEST, which distributes the power. Mumbai consumes 2700 MW power and the demand is expected to rise from March.
