With the IIT-B campus buzzing with the 300-odd companies present for placement procedures, many of them seemed interested in hiring those students who had worked with them before for their internships. As a result, pre-placement offers have seen a rise on this campus.

Companies are more comfortable with candidates who have worked with them before. “78 pre-placement offers have been made to IIT-B students so far,” said Avijeet Chatterjee, professor in charge of placements. He added that the increase in number of pre-placement offers show that companies are more inclined towards students they already have viewed and re-viewed during internships.

Students can decide to either accept or reject the offers depending on their interests by November 28.

While Day 2 saw 29 companies on campus interviewing students in two different slots, there were 35 on Day 1, which ended at around 2am with a whooping number of 160 offers made. Day 2 placements are expected to go on till the wee hours of Monday.

According to Chatterjee, big company that visited campus on Day 2 included Yahoo, Adobe, Amazon, Oracle, Barkley’s, American Express, etc. “While companies from diverse sectors have participated, students prefer engineering-based jobs,” Chatterjee said.

Moreover, with 1,300 students participating in the placements this year, this figure, too, has seen a rise. Last year, 1,200 participated in the same. This is due to the reservation policies initiated at the IITs four years ago, which resulted in an increase in the number of seats.
