The Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) board has allowed Anurag Thombare, a student from New Panvel, to write his board examination using a laptop. While Thombare's school, upon his father Rohidas Thombare's request, had written to the board asking for a typing machine, the board obliged to take a step further and offer Anurag a laptop. Anurag suffers from a learning disability called Attention Deficit Hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and visual perception disorder.

In 2016, the Maharashtra government had introduced a resolution for Children with Special Needs (CWSN). The resolution stated that with the permission of concerned state board officials, CWSN provisions can be made available to those in need.

Rohidas Thombare, said, "The exam centre has arranged a laptop for him (Anurag). Anurag can type well but he cannot write properly and hence I started teaching him to type from a very young age, when he was in class 1."

Anurag's mother, Kavita, said, "Getting a writer is a big task and convincing their parents as well. Sometimes writers have their own exams and studies so they also get exhausted. So we decided to help our son this way." Anurag scored 82.60% in SSC board exam, for which he was assigned a writer.

Subhash Borse, secretary, Mumbai Division Board, said, "We have instructed the exam centres that a laptop or computer be provided to the student. There should be no internet connection or information on the desktop. After writing the exams, all answers need to be saved in PDF format by the exam centre and later be deleted from the computer so that no edits are made to it."
