The Bombay high court on Friday lauded the efforts of the municipal corporations for going on an overdrive to remove illegal banners, posters and hoardings.

As per statistics submitted to the court, the BMC had, by Thursday night, removed 5,065 illegal banners.

“It is not the end of the road but the beginning and the civic bodies need to continue a sustained drive to ensure that a civil society is maintained,” said the division bench of Justice AM Khanwilkar and Justice AP Bhangale.

The HC had, in its order on March 13, directed the civic and local bodies to remove illegal hoardings within 24 hours. “The drive will continue and the civic body will ensure that as per policy, we will not allow illegal hoardings,” said senior counsel Anil Sakhare.

The court added the BMC can consider involving NGOs and schoolchildren to create more awareness.
