Khushboo Vaishya, 9, is in pain and cannot move her right arm properly.

The 5th standard student of Guru Nanak Higher Secondary School at GTB Nagar, Sion, has alleged that she was beaten up by her teacher on Wednesday. The reason: she was absent on Tuesday despite having holidays till Monday for Ganesh festival.

Her parents took her to Sion hospital after she complained of pain and swelling on her right arm. Doctors gave her some medicine and bandaged her arm.

Her father Rajeshkumar Vaishya was at the Antop Hill police station when dna contacted him on Thursday. "Apart from beaten her up, this teacher, Savita, made her sit on the floor for three to four hours," he said. "I am at the police station to file a complaint against the teacher. My daughter is in pain."

A school staff member told dna that principal Madhvi Naik had left for the day. But she said that the school came to know of the incident only on Thursday when Vaishya approached Naik. The principal has called the parents and the teacher on Friday to know both sides of the story, she said.

The officer on duty at the Antop Hill police station confirmed that Vaishya had approached them and the police were registering a complaint.
