A guilt ridden Mumbai University graduate who wants his degree revoked, as he claims he obtained it using fraudulent means, has once again moved to the Bombay High Court, by way of a review petition, asking the court to reconsider its decision rejecting his earlier petition.

The petition has been filed by Vaibhav Patil, 28, on March 24, and is likely to come up for hearing in due course of time. He has claimed that the court in October last year, while rejecting his plea seeking direction to University to revoke or cancel his degree, had relied on the fact that no evidence of his wrong doing was provided. Further, no provisions under the Mumbai University Act allowed surrender of degree in the way he wanted, a degree can be revoked/ surrendered if a person is convicted in a criminal case.

To this, Patil claims, he wrote to Registrar of Mumbai University, clearly mentioning how and with whom he had adopted illegal means and cleared subject during revaluation. Had the university taken some action five years back when he complained first, it would have got some evidence and could have been presented before the court, he contends. If today there is no evidence, it's only because of the University's negligence, for which he has to suffer, Patil claims.

The plea prays for setting aside of the October, 2016 order and to direct the University to revoke all marksheets and degree certificate secured in 2011. Patil claims that he paid a bribe then to obtain his engineering degree.

Since then his conscience has been pricking him so he wants to return it. He pleads that he had committed this act under severe mental stress to save his future, if now the degrees are taken back it will help him regain his mental strength and pursue his career.

Patil told DNA that he would not give up until the university takes his degree back or allows him to do the same course all over again. He said that the university should at least allow him to pursue the same course all over again.
