Days after dna carried a report about Bollywood actor and star prisoner of the Yerwada Central Jail Sanjay Dutt being treated for blood pressure, Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council Vinod Tawde on Monday stated in the House that the home department is trying to shift the 1993 blast convict to a Mumbai hospital on the pretext of treating him.

Tawde said if that happens then Dutt will enjoy air-conditioned facilities of a hospital.

On Saturday, four doctors from Pune’s Sassoon Hospital were rushed to Yerwada jail after the actor complained of blood pressure. However, the jail authorities had rubbished it saying it was a routine check-up.

The actor is serving his remaining 42 months sentence at Yerwada Central Jail in Pune following his conviction in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case.

Speaking on supplementary demands on the home department, Tawde said the attack on gangster Abu Salem in the “anda cell’ of Taloja jail had led to a violation of the treaty of extradition between the Indian government and the Portugal government.

Therefore, the extradition treaties with 50 other countries would also be in trouble and it would now become difficult for the Indian government to carry out extradition of criminals from these countries.

Targeting the home minister, Tawde alleged that a revolver could be smuggled into the jail just by paying Rs300.
