Even though it has been a month since veteran CPI leader Govind Pansare was fatally attacked, the state and investigating agencies have lost hope on making any breakthrough in nabbing his assailants.

Pansare and his wife Uma were shot at from close range on February 16 by unidentified persons. He succumbed to his injuries four days later.

His murder mirrored that of superstitions crusader Narendra Dabholkar's, and now, the investigation also seems to be going the same way. Agencies probing Dabholkar's murder were unable to crack the case and handed over it to the CBI.

Sources within the government revealed that even though the motor cycle used in the crime has been found, there is no sign that investigation would progress much, so as to nab the perpetrators.

Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, who also holds the home department portfolio, is reviewing the case's progress on a daily basis. His deputy, Dr Ranjeet Patil is also reviewing the same by holding meetings with senior police officials regularly.

The state is considering introducing forensic and cyber crime related training at the induction level. It is also considering imparting training for collection of evidence from the crime scene.
