Saying that the state would inquire into the decision of integrated development of NTC Mills taken by the previous Congress-NCP government, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday said his government would amend the same to remove anomalies and contradictions for serving the larger interest of Mumbaikars, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and the state government.

Replying to a supplementary on a starred question asked by MLAs Sunil Shinde, Rupesh Mhatre and Vaibhav Naik, Fadnavis assured that rehabilitation of residents on the Jupiter Mills land would be done as early as possible.

Fadnavis made it clear that the state government would remove the anomalies in reservations shown in the previous development plans with respect to land of NTC (National Textile Corporation) Mills. He also said there would be an inquiry if there are irregularities in the redevelopment of Phoenix Mills.

Shinde had questioned whether the builders, while developing the lands of Century Mills in Worli and Jupiter Mills in Elphinstone Road, did not hand over the plots for amenities, gardens and schools and colleges to the BMC.

BJP city unit president and MLA Ashish Shelar had pointed out that it was the previous government that had served the interest of the builders by amending Development Control Rule (DCR) 58 almost 16 times in just 45 days.

He pointed out that due to anomalies in development plans of 1984 and 1991, the reservations were not the same as those cited by the land owners to hand over the reserved land.

Fadnavis said his government would inquire into the entire exercise and redevelopment of NTC Mill land done after amendments in DCR 58. He added that the government would go for course correction so that larger public interest is served.

The CM said the previous government had made changes which resulted in dividing the open spaces in three parts instead of dividing the entire land of NTC Mills, a decision that neither served the purpose of the state nor of the BMC or that of the public.

Leader of Opposition Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil, however, demanded an SIT (Special Investigation Team) inquiry into the land-grabbing by builders with the help of BMC officials. Congress MLA Amin Patel said Phoneix Mills was the den of corruption and questioned whether the residents of Jupiter Mills land would ever see the rehabilitation in their lifetime.
