The traffic woes for motorists along the Eastern Express Highway seem to be piling up. Joints of the Amar Mahal flyover, which sustained damages to its bearings due to an adverse curvature on April 8, is still in the process of being repaired. The state government will work on a war-footing to repair the joints at three locations of the 61-metre-long stretch.

In an interaction with the media on Monday (April 17) at Mantralaya, PWD Minister Chandrakant Patil said after it was discovered that the joints were damaged, the government had decided to shut vehicular traffic towards Thane.

An official said the 61-metre stretch will be repaired using traditional construction methods.

The expert committee, which is chaired by professor Ravi Sinha of IIT Bombay, is still ascertaining the reasons that damaged the flyover. Patil said that since the bridge has a five-year warranty, the question of initiating action against anyone in this regard does not arise.
