The Bombay high court on Monday directed the state Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to file an affidavit detailing the probe in Sanam Hassan’s death case. Hassan, a student of fashion communication at the Symbiosis Institute of Design in Pune, had died under unnatural circumstances last year.

A division bench of justices SC Dharmadhikari and GS Patel said, “Answer the parents’ concern. You have to be very sensitive in dealing with this case.”

The court was hearing a petition filed by the deceased girl’s mother, Nagina, a Versova resident who alleged that the police were not probing the case properly.

As per the petition, Sanam had gone out to celebrate her birthday with her friends on October 3, 2012. The next day, her parents were informed that their daughter was taken to Ruby Hall Clinic, where she was declared “dead on arrival”. The plea said the forensic examination carried out by the police has been inconclusive as the reports stated the samples taken for tests were those of a male. The post-mortem report, too, did not mention the cause of death.

The court expressed its surprise over the forensic examination reports and questioned how wrong samples were sent for tests. The prosecution told the court that another independent test will be conducted soon to clear the doubts.

Hassans’ advocate Aniket Nikam said, “There hasn’t been any progress in the case; hence, we have asked that the case be transferred to the CBI.”

The hearing has been adjourned to October 28.
