Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar wrote to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday, asking for thorough and urgent medical treatment to ailing and ageing OBC leader Chhagan Bhujbal.

The former deputy chief minister has been in Arthur Road Jail for two years on charges of corruption and money laundering.

Pawar, in his letter to the CM, says that Bhujbal is 71 years old and his health is fragile. He warned that if Bhujbal suffers an untoward fate, Fadnavis would be held responsible.

"Unless and until the judiciary comes to conclusion," Pawar says, "Bhujbal is deemed innocent. It is unfortunate that his bail has been denied repeatedly. Bhujbal was mayor and home minister. No one can deny his contribution to the state. As a citizen, he deserves proper medical treatment."
