It is strange to find that the directorate of art (DOA) website has not uploading general knowledge (GK) marks of students in the provisional merit list, one of the theory papers (objective) in Maharashtra applied arts and crafts common entrance test MH-AAC-CET 2014-15. However, it is showing the marks of GK of foreign students on the website. According to officials, the reason behind GK marks not showing is to avoid any confusion in the merit list.

This year the examination of the MH-AAC-CET took place on June 10. Almost 25,000 students appeared for this exam. Students take this exam to get admission in bachelor of fine art like applied arts, fine art, sculpture, ceramics, textile designing, interior designing and metal craft. On July 2 the final merit list was suppose to be uploaded. Only after that the common admission process would start.

The DOA came up with the provisional merit list on June 25 for Maharashtra (MH), outside Maharashtra state (OMS) and foreign national candidates.

However, teachers and parents were surprised to see that GK marks were added in total marks obtained by candidates, but were not showing in separate columns of the provisional merit list.

Kapil Kamble (name changed), a parent said, "It is surprising that the marks of other practical papers are shown on the website with separate columns but GK marks are not, even though it's added in total."

A professor from JJ School Of Art seconds Kamble, said, "We too have noticed that the marks of GK were not shown in a separate column on DOA's website. Instead they were added to the total marks obtained by candidates."

The head of CET Avinash Gharde, said, "GK marks are not displayed to avoid any confusion in case of a tie in merit. But it is added in the total marks students have scored. In case of candidates securing equal number of marks in CET, their relative merit will be fixed on the basis of higher marks in object drawing, design paper, memory drawing paper, DoB of candidate (older candidate given preference), a candidate securing higher grade in intermediate drawing grade exam or candidate with higher aggregate percentage in SSC exam or an equivalent exam)."
