Residents of Charni Road are angry over the administration's apathy in maintaining the iconic SK Patil Garden. The residents claim that the children's play area and toilets are in bad shape and do not have electricity. They claim that the local corporator too hasn't paid enough heed to the problem. Some of the residents have taken to Twitter and Facebook to voice their discontent.

Amit Bhadricha, a local and an active member of Shiv Sena, said, "The children play area is in shambles, the light in the garden and toilet area isn't functional. The equipment is broken and can lead to tragedy."

A cold war between local corporators Makrand Narvekar and Rita Makwana has been going on for some time now, Makwana had even written a letter to the city BJP chief alleging Narvekar's interference in her ward.

When contacted, Makwana said, "I am aware of the situation and have visited the garden too. I have asked BMC to get the basic infrastructure right. When we float a tender for the garden's renovation, I have asked BMC to purchase high-quality equipment so that such problems do not arise again."

Sadashiv Kanoji Patil Udyan, as it is popularly known, is named after one of Mumbai's Congress leaders. He was called the uncrowned king of Mumbai till the time he was defeated by George Fernandes. He was also the city's former mayor and a Union Minister.
