Ganpati festival to bring deity in cleaner environment

This Ganpati festival citizens will be able to bring their favourite deity in cleaner environment. Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will ensure that city remain clean and neat. All the 24 wards and Solid Waste Management Department will have to follow the instructions given by the municipal commissioner Ajoy Mehta. Mehta, on Tuesday has asked the officials to ensure that not only the main roads near big Ganapati Pandals but also bylanes and slum areas are kept clean during Ganapati Festival.

In a monthly review meeting, held on Tuesday, Ajoy Mehta has asked the ward officers to keep the city garbage free during Ganeshotsav. "Ganeshotsav is the most important festival of the city and people celebrate it at grand scale. Most homes bring Ganapati and at that time if their surroundings is clean there is general feel good factor. We will try to keep the city clean in slums and buildings so that people feel better about it. All the officers are instructed", said Ajoy Mehta, Municipal Commissioner.

Mostly Solid Waste Management Department and also the sweepers keep main roads neat and clean. Big mandals also ensure that their area is kept clean as they have thousands of devotees during the day and night time. But smaller roads and by lanes are usually kept unattended. Especially slums are ignored.

"SWM department and sweepers are instructed that garbage is lifted as per schedule and sweeping is done regularly", said a senior official.
