Gang involved in 2013 Pant Nagar robbery held

The city crime branch has solved a robbery that took place in February, 2013 wherein an armed group of robbers had attacked two jewellers and decamped with 1.5 kg gold ornaments and cash they were carrying in Ghatkopar.

Those arrested have been identified as Jaiprakash Yadav, Vinodkumar Pasi, Hajid Ali Mirza Baig, Kailash More and Deepak Mishra.

According to the police, on February 23, 2013, jewellers Bhavesh Jain and Dipesh Solanki had been driving around on a scooter to deliver ornaments to their clients across the city. They had kept the ornaments in a bag and had kept the bag in the duct of the scooter which was being driven by Solanki.

Around 2.45 pm, as soon as the duo reached the Pushpa Vihar junction at Ghatkopar, a group of four accosted their scooter and assaulted them. They also threatened them using a firearm. "While one of them fled with the scooter containing 1.4 kg ornaments and Rs1,83 lakh cash, the remaining three sped away in a car parked near the scene of crime," said senior inspector Milind Khetle of Dahisar unit of crime branch.

"We have recovered 115gms of stolen ornaments from the accused persons. We learnt that the weapons used in the Ghatkopar case was used by Yadav and Pasi. Baig has been involved in 170 cases of housebreaking in the past. We have handed over the custody of all the accused persons to the Pant Nagar police," said assistant inspector Vijay Kandagaonkar.
