The State Education Department extended the deadline for securing admissions to first year junior college (FYJC) of the first round until 12 noon on Friday. The decision to extend the earlier deadline of Thursday 5pm was taken after a large number of students, who were allotted colleges in the first round, did not confirm their admissions until Thursday evening.

"Only 74,694 students out of the 1,56,507 who were allotted a seat in the first round had taken admission until Thursday evening. Some students might be awaiting admission to better colleges during the second round. But, we are expecting a few more admissions to take place and have hence given a day's extension," said an official from the Deputy Directorate of Education that conducts these admissions.

As per the new admission guidelines, students who have been allotted the college of their first preference have to take admission in the college and would be out of the admission process. Those who have been allotted colleges from their second to tenth preference can try for betterment in the next subsequent rounds. This year, the facility of provisional admissions has been scrapped for FYJC admissions.

Several students and parents who were still confused about the new rules lined outside the office of the Deputy Directorate on Thursday.

The schedule

General merit list: July 4
First merit list: July 10
Second merit list: July 20
Third merit list: July 29
