Four-man gang behind series of burglaries arrested in Palghar

Vanrai police have busted a gang of housebreakers. The gang was instrumental in at least six house break-ins (HBTs) in Mumbai and Palghar district.

Those arrested have been identified as Rajesh alias Gochu Babban Kadam, 32, from Charkop, Rakesh alias Ramesh Yadav, 33, from Nalasopara, Alam Abdul Wahab Shaikh, 33, from Masjid Bunder and Dhruv Rampratap Gupta, 28, also from Nalasopara.

According to Additional Commissioner of Police, North Region, Rajesh Pradhan, on July 15, this year, a few unknown people had broken the shutter of Sangam Metal Shop in Goregaon (E) and had decamped with copper and nickel metal worth Rs 6.60 lakh. A case of housebreaking was registered against unknown persons by Vanrai police in this regard.

"On receipt of information, a Maruti Van was intercepted by a police team on July 26 at Dahisar check naka. Four suspects travelling in the vehicle were questioned after which they admitted having committed theft at Sangam Metal shop. At their instance we have recovered entire stolen property," said Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone XII, Vinay Kumar Rathod.

"Probe revealed that the vehicle seized from the accused was a stolen one. They have similar offences registered at Vanrai, Kasturba, Nalasopara, Valiv and Virar police stations. We have recovered stolen property worth Rs 21.78 lakh, including gun Metal, 14 LED television sets, protein supplements, grocery and Disc Jockey equipment from the accused persons," said Senior Police Inspector Jyotsna Rasam from Vanrai police station.
