For Priyanka Pol, 24, wedding dreams up in smoke

Priyanka Pol, 24, a resident of Gokul Niwas building is supposed to get married on May 30. Rather, she was. Her dreams caught fire on Saturday night, when the building collapsed following a massive fire. Jewellery worth Rs7 lakh and clothes meant for use during the marriage ceremony turned into ashes. The family is being provided a temporary space in Dadar by local politician Raj Purohit.

Recalling the incident, Priyanka said, "When fire broke out around 4 pm, three female members of my family and a three-year old child (her relative's son) were at home. I was at work. Our family was safely rescued but all we had was lost in this fire."

Priyanka said that her wedding is on the May 30th. "My family had finished all the preparations. We had collected all the gifts, clothing and jewellery, worth Rs7 lakh, for the wedding. All of them have now turned into ashes," said Pol.

As Priyanka's fiance Swapnil Surve came to meet her on Sunday, she could not control her tears.

"There were two families in the building. One of them had gone to their village of origin recently. Both the families have been given temporary accommodation by Bharatiya Janata Party leader Raj Purohit in Dadar. The fire has left us homeless. We have senior citizen members in our family and we have nowhere to go now," said Priyanka.
