Indian army officials from Bombay engineering group (BEG)  who have undertaken the work of construction of railway footover bridges (FOBs) at Mumbai's Ambivali, Elphinstone road and Currey road stations on Thursday stated that all the construction of bridges will be completed and made operational before end of February.

Giving the details of the status of these three FOBs, officers of BEG on Thursday stated that while 90% work of the FOB at Ambivali station is completed and it will be made operational by January 31, the work at the Elphinstone road station is also going in full swing and by January 28 nearly 90% work of that bridge also will be completed. In terms of Currey road FOB, the army officials stated that 60% of the work is completed and all the bridges will be made operational before end of February.

After 23 people lost their lives in stampede at Elphinstone road station FOB on September 29, the government announced that the construction new FOB would be undertaken by the army. Responding to the call by the government, the army had announced that the construction of the bridge will be completed by January 31 but later two more bridges, one at Ambivali and other at Currey road station were undertaken by the army.

Brigadier Dhiraj Mohan, commandant of BEG said, "It is a matter of pride and honor that the army was given the task of constructing these FOB's and we are hopeful that we will be able to construct these bridges in record time."

Speaking about delay of few days, Brigadier Mohan said, "Both Indian army and Indian railways are very big organisations and it took us some time in achieving the coordination. However, the work is going at fast pace and most of the work at these FOBs is done. We do not want to give any date of completion but we are hopeful that all the three FOB's will be made operational before the end of February."

Giving reasons for the delay for work at Currey road station, Mohan said, "There was a delay three weeks in handing over of the land by the railways. We got the land on December 10 and we immediately started the work. By February 4, the bridge will launched and it will be commissioned within two weeks."
