Fire in Breach Candy building guts three shops

A fire broke out in a stationary and toy shop and gutted three more in Premsons House building in Breach Candy on Friday afternoon.

According to an officer from the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB), the fire originated at 'Adornica' store located on the building's first floor and spread to the godown around 2:40 pm. A fire officer said that combustive material like toys and packing materials were stored in the godown due to which the fire spread immediately and gutted the shops within a few minutes.

"We received a fire call around 2:45 pm and five fire tenders and six jumbo water tankers were rushed to the spot. The level-two fire call was given as the fire was spreading quickly being adjacent shops. After over two hours of firefighting operations, the fire was doused. There are no casualties, however, there is a major monetary loss," said a fire officer.

Another fire officer said, "The preliminary cause of the fire seems to be a short circuit however our inspection is in the process to ascertain the exact cause. We will be submitting our reports in a day or two."

Meanwhile, major traffic congestion was reported in the area on Friday afternoon due to the fire.
