Fire at commercial building in south Mumbai

The fire was brought under control and no casualties were reported.

A major fire broke out on the second floor of Harish Chambers, near the Naval dockyard in south Mumbai on Thursday morning. There was no one in the office at the time of the fire and no casualties were reported.

"It took 10-15 minutes for the eight fire tenders to reach the spot after a call was received at 9. 26 am," said an official from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) disaster control room.

A fire official told iamin that eight fire engines and three water tankers doused the fire and brought it under control.  The cause of the fire is not known yet.

The raging fire also caused traffic issues in the area. The traffic police diverted the southbound traffic on Shahid Bhagat Singh Road off to Kalaghoda and Hutatma Chowk due to the fire. Motorists were asked to avoid the route and to drive carefully because of the smoke.

The Naval Dock officials were also alerted to be careful because of the smoke.
