Fee hike: Dahisar school firm on expulsion

Even after Shiv Sena's youth wing along with several parents protested at Dahisar's Universal High School for expelling close to 80 students for not paying the hiked fees, the school is firm about taking back only students whose parents agree to pay the revised fees and adhere to the 'norms' set by the school.

Parents had earlier opposed the close to 12 per cent hike by the school alleging that it 'had not provided facilities as promised and had not taken the consent of the parents before deciding on the hike'.

With a complaint registered with the state education department in March 2017, and the decision still pending, some parents had paid fees as per the old fee structure. The school issued expulsion notices, to students who did not pay the revised fees, citing non-payment of fees.

"We have already sent letters to parents who have either not paid the fees or who have paid as per the old fee structure. We will give them a chance and will enrol those students whose parents pay the full fees," said Jesus Lall, Chairman, Universal group of institutes.

State Education Minister Vinod Tawde issued a statement on Wednesday stating that the government will withdraw the No Objection Certificate of the school if any student is expelled for such a reason. "A meeting of the fee regulation committee will be held on Thursday," read the statement.
