Dhule farmer Dharma Patil, an 84-year-old farmer who attempted to commit suicide by drinking poison on the premises of Mantralaya on Monday evening, is still in a critical condition.

Patil, who was immediately rushed to St George Hospital after his suicide attempt, was later on shifted to JJ Hospital on Tuesday evening for dialysis. He has been admitted to the intensive care unit of JJ Hospital.
According to doctors, his body is not supporting medical treatment given to him.

“He is still in a critical condition. He is on ventilator support and dialysis since Monday evening. There is no improvement in his medical condition since the time of his admission,” said Medical Superintendent of JJ Hospital.

According to Patil’s son, his father had written letters to the ministers and collector over his project affected land reimbursement issues since the last few months. However, no one heeded to his requests.

Meanwhile, Power Minister Chandrashekhar Bavankule on Wednesday announced that he has directed Dhule district collector to explore whether remaining 130 farmers also can be provided with increased compensation.
Bavankule had announced on Tuesday night Rs 15 lakh as ex-gratia to Dharma Patil.

However, Narendra Patil, the farmer’s son, decided to refuse the amount. He said, “My father’s medical condition is getting worse. If anything happens to my father, we won’t take his body until he gets justice. My father wanted compensation for the land. We want money as per rules and not an ex-gratia amount.”
