Wednesday, 12 March 2014 - 6:45am IST | Place: Mumbai | Agency: dna

A 40-year-old man, Salman 'baba', from Bhiwandi was arrested by the police on Saturday for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl, who is studying in class 9 in a Bhiwandi school.

The accused used to visit the victim's house often after he was told that the victim's mother was ill. Only the mother and the girl used to be in the house in the afternoons. One January afternoon, the 'baba' went to the victim's house and told her to give 'jadi booti ' to her mother, after which the mother fell asleep. He then gave the girl some sweet telling her it was a prasad.

After she had it, she felt unconscious. The accused then tied her hands and legs to the bed and raped her. He later warned the girl that if she disclosed this to anyone, he would kill her, her mother as well as her sister.

The victim didn't reveal this to anyone for two weeks. In February, the accused came into the house again and forced the girl to have sex with him saying if she didn't cooperate, he would defame her.

On March 8, the victim disclosed everything to her family, and by late evening, the accused was arrested.

The victim's father works as a stove repairer in the vicinity. The family is also involved in moti-making business.

The accused hails from Uttar Pradesh and has been staying in Bhiwandi for the past few years. He used to keep moving from locality to locality depending on the availability of food and clothing.

Police sub-inspector of Shantinagar police station, UK Ingale, said: "The fake baba was arrested from Bhiwandi. We have send him for medical test."

The accused has been charged under IPC sections 376 (rape), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.
