The Vasai police have arrested a 22-year-old engineer for allegedly sending vulgar messages to 10 female friends on Facebook. The man wanted to take revenge as the women had allegedly humiliated him in his college days, said the police.

The accused, identified as Aron Furtado, had created many fake profiles on social networking site Facebook and was harassing the women for the past two years. However, his free run in the virtual world came to an end when one of the victims approached the police.

During investigation, the police tracked the internet protocol of the sender's computer and traced the messages to Vasai resident Furtado and arrested him. Furtado was released on bail on Sunday, three days after a local court had remanded him in police custody.

"We forwarded the complaint to the cybercrime cell and they managed to track the IP address, leading to Furtado's arrest. He told us that a group of his female friends had insulted him two years ago, hurting his ego," said an officer from Vasai police station.

The officer said Furtado then created fake Facebook accounts to stalk the women. If they blocked one account, he would create another fake account and continue to send obscene messages. "We have booked him under the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology act and the investigation is on," added the officer.
