Employee steals silver worth Rs 90 lakh from Zaveri Bazaar

The 25-year-old accused worked as a salesman and after stealing the silver made valuables wanted to start his own jewellery store

A 25-year-old former employee working with a gold and silver jewellery firm at Zaveri Bazaar in Mumbai stole 198 kilos of silver worth Rs 90 lakh from the main locker after making a duplicate key. The accused wanted to start his own jewellery showroom.

According to Thane police, Ratansingh Dewara, 25, has been a resident of Indira Nagar at Wagle Estate in Thane for the past 6-7 years.

The owner of the firm, Anil Dagalia, filed a complaint at the LT Marg police station about the incident.

Mukund Hatote, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Thane Crime Branch said, "We have arrested him under sections 454(house breaking), 457(house breaking by night) and 380(Theft) of the Indian Penal Code."

"The accused during interrogation revealed that he wanted to start his own jewellery firm and stolen the silver made valuables from the locker without the knowledge of the jewellery firm owner", said Hatote.
