A 78-year-old man was on Friday sentenced to 10 years imprisonment by a special women's court here for raping two minors in 2011 and filming the act.

"The court today convicted Narsi Kataria for raping two minors aged 16 years and 12 years and also directed him to pay Rs 25,000 as compensation to each girl," said public prosecutor Nileema Kasture.

According to Mulund police in suburban Mumbai, Kataria, a former professional photographer, used to lure minor girls to his house with chocolates and money, then used to rape them. "At times, he also used to call these girls and say that he may offer them some job," said Kasture.

Kataria was arrested in November 2011 after the girls reported the incident to police and was booked under Sections 376 (punishment for rape) and 292 A (sale of obscene materials) of Indian Penal Code. The prosecution examined 17 witnesses in the case. However, what bolstered the case was the statements of the victims and CDs recovered from him which contained the video of him raping the minors.

Accepting Kasture's arguments, special judge Vrushali Joshi sentenced Kataria to ten years imprisonment.
