Four societies of Mumbai including Shyam Sadan of Girgaon, Indra Darshan Society of Andheri, Happy Home Complex of Boirvali and New Gokul Garden CHS of Kandivali participated in DNA's eco-friendly Ganpati celebration this year.  Every year DNA comes up with an eco-friendly way to celebrate Ganesha festival. This year these four societies joined hands to organise various eco-friendly activities such as making Ganesha idols from clay. The idea behind this activity is to indulge kids in making the idols themselves

"It was a wonderful activity. I had fun making the idol. While making the idol we were also told the importance of bringing home Ganpati made of only clay. This is what we were taught in the school as well. The use of Plaster of Paris (POP) makes our environment unclean but next year, if we bring Ganpati at our home, I will try making Ganpati myself with clay," said 13 year old Krish Solanki, a student of St. Teresa School.

Another 12 year old Kadambari Manjrekar who welcomes Ganpati at her house every year, this time too bought a Ganpati made with POP, however, after this activity, she shared a different view. "I did not know that it would affect our environment so much if we invite Ganesha made of POP at home. However, I made Ganpati myself using clay, I had fun. I went home and also told my parents the importance of clay Ganpati, they too have agreed to invite Ganesha made of clay next year," Manjrekar added.

Meanwhile a resident of the New Gokul Garden CHS Aakash Bhattacharya said, "It is a brilliant way to inculcate the behavior of being more careful towards the environment. It is this generation that will in the future make a better society." Along with the clay moulding activity, women of the society participated in a mithai-making workshop by Gits.

Meeta Kapoor and Rupa Sengupta from Handicraft Venture partnered with DNA in executing the workshop for children in Indra Darshan Society Andheri. This year the entire nation witnessed many unique ways of making Ganpati idols with an idea to keep the celebrations eco-friendly. The devotees also went for eco-friendly methods of Ganpati Visarjan.
