The rescuers recovered one more body on Saturday in the incident involving Probace enterprises in Dombivli's MIDC (Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation) area.
On Saturday, the death toll in the Dombivli boiler blast touched 12. According to the police, all the missing people were found, bringing the rescue operation, on since Thursday, to an end.
The rescuers recovered one more body on Saturday in the incident involving Probace enterprises in Dombivli's MIDC (Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation) area. "We have recovered all the bodies from the debris and most of the missing have been found, identified either among the injured or the dead," said assistant inspector Jayendra Bhoir, Manpada police station, Dombivli east.
The blast that took place at 11.30am on Thursday was so intense that it destroyed six adjacent factories. Even residential buildings and schools within a 3km radius were not spared with their glass windows shattering and doors and shutters of shops coming out.
The dead also include three members of the Vakatkar family which owned the company — Nandan (33), his younger brother Sumeet (30) and Sumeet's wife Sonal (28); their bodies were recovered from the debris late on Friday.
Their father Dr Vishwas Vakatkar, who was not on the factory premises at the time of the blast, has been hospitalised as he fell ill after hearing about the deaths.
The police have registered a case against the Vakatkars under sections 304 (2) (homicide), 337 (endangering life and safety), 338 (negligently endanger human life) and 427 (mischief) of the Indian Penal Code. "No arrests have been made as of now," said Bhoir.
Also, as a preventive measure, inspectors from the safety department of MIDC will carry out inspections of all industries in the area. "As per Thane district collector Dr Mahendra Kalyankar's order, our inspectors will inspect all units in the area to avoid such incidents in the future," said SS Jagtap, executive engineer, MIDC.
