The Wagle Estate Doctors' Association has decided to conduct health check-up camps and awareness programmes for students in the city, to ensure they are aware of the importance of taking care of their health from a young age. A group of doctors residing in Wagle Estate will visit schools are part of this initiative, to propagate the benefits of good health.

"Children tend to get addicted to things very easily and thanks to the lifestyles they lead these days, many are also turning inactive. Consuming junk food in excess, plonking themselves in front ofa television or computer, have all contributed to their unhealthy life. Hence, it is essential to make them understand how to take care of their health through simple measures. To enhance this further, we decided to conduct health check-ups as well, so we can highlight their problems," says Dr Preeta Kejriwal.

They started their initiative by visiting Adarsh English High School in Kisan Nagar. The children in this school were explained the importance of maintaining their health and also conducted a health check-up. "Most children need spectacles or are facing dental problems. The eyesight has taken a beating because of increased exposure of smartphones, computers and television. When we noticed their dental and vision-related problems, we explained how they can prevent this by giving their eyes rest in between and brush their teeth at night, too, alongwith other simple exercises," says Dr Sachin Salunkhe.

Sharda Ashok Kumar, principal of the school says, "This is a very good initiative as unlike earlier children these days fall ill often and they need to be explained to maintain their health. In most of the cases, parents go to work all day and the children are alone at home so they should be aware of the precautions and measures towards maintaining good health."

"We will initially take up this initiative in schools in the vicinity and then move on to other school in Thane. We are doing it for free as this will help these children to remain healthy and have a bright future," adds Salunkhe.
