The Vakola Police have arrested a serial land grabber, who is said to have claimed rights to many properties across the city and has asked the existing tenants to vacate the premises. The accused identified as Salim Musa Khan, along with suspected Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) officials, used to produce forged ownership documents of properties owned by NRIs. Making use of those documents, Khan conducted several illegal land transactions and misappropriated a huge amount of money and duped people.

According to the police, the matter came to light after Khan recently submitted a writ petition to the Bombay High Court claiming his rights over a chawl in Prabhat Colony area of Vakola and asked the court to issue an order so that residents vacate the premises. One of the residents and complainant Pratap Shinde, after receiving the summon from the court, challenged it and claimed that the documents filed by Khan while filing a petition were forged.

“Khan had managed to acquire fake conveyance deed letters from the MHADA and the municipal authority and on that basis he framed a false case. We requested the court to grant some time to examine the authenticity of the submitted documents from MHADA. When all the documents were sent to Mumbai and Pune offices, the head authorities claimed that they were forged and not genuine; after which the court ordered the police to lodge an FIR immediately for misleading the court by giving bogus documents,” Shinde said.
