When the leading luminaries of the architecture profession gather under one roof,  the event becomes memorable in more ways than one. The DNA Sir JJ Architecture Awards 2018 were presented on January 19, 2018 at The Lalit, Andheri to the designers of incredible edifices that have made their alma mater - Sir JJ College of Architecture, Mumbai - proud.

Many of today’s renowned architects started out by imbibing knowledge and sharpening their design skills at this prestigious institution. This platform combines the two-fold objectives of honouring its top alumni and the college they passed out from. The evening was enlivened with unique performances and video presentations that tugged at the heart strings of every JJ alumni present.

In his welcome remarks, Rajat Kumar, CRO, DNA, said, “Sir JJ College of Architecture has created scholars, who have distinguished themselves through extraordinary achievement in their respective professions. It is our priviledge to honour these masterminds today and continue to create several such ripples in the water of knowledge, passion and innovation.”

Rajiv Mishra, Principal, Sir J.J. College of Architecture, termed it a historic function “Where alumni of Sir JJ College of Architecture have come together to felicitate some senior alumni as well as the alumni who have been performing so well in the profession, to recognise their efforts and too see to it that this felicitation starts not only today, as first of its series, but continues year after year by DNA. Since this is the first series, it is very important that besides the alumni, it is the teachers who have taught for so many years be rewarded for the first time. I thank the DNA management for considering my request. I would call this the first major attempt by the Alumni Association to bring to us the shining stars in the sky of architecture,” he said.

Among the awardees, Architect Shirish Sukhatme, shared, “This award is like my mother and father are giving pat on my back. I must congratulate DNA for taking interest in the JJ School of Architecture.

Architect Rusi Khambatta said, “We get to meet a lot of people as we have totally lost track of them. I think it’s a great thing and it should happen more often. If not every year then atleast every couple of years it should happen.”

Architect Shakti Parmar, concurred, “It feels very good to be here and interacting with so many people who are central to the institute. This is an excellent concept.”

The sponsors were all praise for the event as well. Subrata Sen, Business Head, Enterprise Business, Havells said, “It’s really a privilege for us to be a part of this august gathering. We strongly believe that you all distinguished guests and this august gathering are the true ambassadors of Indian culture because you are the people who create the original ideas, the masterpieces and the future for new budding architects also.”

Jaquar was represented by Parvez Amin - President, Sales & Marketing; Dev Malhotra, Group Advisor and Mohit Hajela, Group Head - Business Development. They felt very glad that DNA and JJ have come together to honour the nation builders who are there for the last 40-50 years. For a progressive country like India, architects play a big role, and Jaquar is very closely associated with the architects, they said.
