A day after dna reported about the serious security breach in the sea near the Tarapur Atomic Power Station (TAPS), the defence ministry ordered an internal inquiry into the incident and sought a detailed report. A Shipping Corporation of India ship, Vishwa Bandhan, escaped the eyes of the Indian Navy and Coast Guard and was found anchored at 3 nautical miles near TAPS.

Local fishermen noticed the ship on Friday and alerted the police. The ship is now in Porbandar in Gujarat. A Coast Guard spokesperson blamed the police for giving wrong information. “We have data to prove that the ship was anchored at 6.5 nautical miles from TAPS after taking requisite permission,” the spokesperson said.

An official told dna: “We have sent the report to the defence ministry. We were in constant touch with the ship since it was anchored near TAPS.”
