On Tuesday, the City Collector's anti-encroachment department demolished the alleged illegal slums in Cuffe Parade. The slums which had come up beside the Bayview Marina Garden were demolished completely amidst heavy police protection. The residents have applauded the action taken by the Collector.

DNA has been repeatedly highlighting the issue of illegal slums and encroachments which have come up in the Cuffe Parade area.

The Cuffe Parade Residents Association (CPRA) had also complained to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and the Revenue Department about the encroachments near Bayview Marina Garden. They further stated that the four plots — 106,107,108 and 109 — on Block IV of Backbay Reclamation have been termed as green zone and belongs to the City Collector.

Padmakar Nandekar, Secretary General, CPRA, said, "We have been consistently complaining to the state government about the encroachments on the government land and near the garden. The anti-encroachment department of the city Collector conducted the drive to demolish the illegal structures and have given relief to the Cuffe Parade residents."

"We are waiting for the government to take a firm stand and demolish the illegal structures which have come up on the four government plots in the Backbay Reclamation area," said Nandekar.

A senior official from City Collectorate said, "So far we have demolished five structures.'
