In what is visibly one of its swiftest action, the BMC has carried out some repair works on the 1 km stretch of road that connects three major Ghatkopar localities.

On the weekend, the BMC temporarily filled up craters and carried out some resurfacing work on the stretch between Sarvoday Hospital to Jagdusha Nagar on the Golibar road in the eastern suburb, much to the residents' and commuters relief.

Last Thursday, dna had reported about the poor condition of the road and how residents are fed up of commuting on it.

According to residents, the road was in a poor condition for almost five years, and neither the civic body, nor the local politicians took any action. The problem had aggravated since the onset of the monsoons, with craters all over the road.

Ishita Shah, a resident, said, "We are happy that the BMC has taken cognisance of the road. They have filled up the craters and carried out some resurfacing work as the road was uneven. It has made our commuting much better."

Residents said that developing the stretch of road was crucial, as it not only connects to Jagdusha Nagar, Amrut Nagar, Geldar Nagar and the Rifle Range road, but also to three major industrial estates, including the Ghatkopar industrial estate.

Residents, however, hopes that the BMC will soon start the actual repair as promised by additional municipal commissioner SVR Srinivas. "The temporary work will not last. During Ganpati, they (BMC) had temporarily repaired the stretch and filled up some of the craters, but they were back in no time," Shah said.
