After dna highlighted on February 12 the case of four babies in need of open-heart surgery, relief is finally on the horizon for three of them. They have been admitted to Kokilaben Dhirubai Ambani Hospital (KDAH) for the operation.

What was dna's report about?
A week ago, dna had reported about the four babies, the youngest now aged 25 days and the oldest 15 months, who were in the care of Wadia children's hospital in Parel and needed to be shifted to KDAH for the life-saving surgery. But lack of funds had left the parents helpless, running from pillar to post for help.

So from where is the money coming?
After dna's story, KDAH agreed to conduct the surgery and started building up funds from donors.

Which babies will undergo surgery?
Four-month-old Rahul Gupta and Vidhi Pawar, and 15-month-old Sejal Jagtap. Sources from KDAH said as the three have an infection, they will need to be stabilised first, and after a week, they will be taken up for the surgery. All three are admitted in the paediatric ward and have been kept under observation.

What about the fourth baby?
Doctors said the youngest baby, all of 25 days old, will be operated on two months later as she is currently not fit for surgery.

What are doctors saying?
Cardiologist Dr Snehal Kulkarni from KDAH said, "We are treating the three babies to bring the infection in their bodies under control. We expect that within a week they will be fit for surgery."

Parents' reaction
"Being a barber in a private salon, I couldn't afford the surgery. But after dna highlighted the situation, everything got sorted out. We never thought a private hospital would come to our aid. We are very thankful to all those who are helping raise funds for my daughter's surgery," said Sejal's father Vivek.
Vidhi's father Vinod said, "We are really happy our daughter has gotten admitted in hospital. Now, we are just praying that everything from hereon goes smoothly."
"I am anxious for the operation to get over, but I know the hospital is taking good care of my boy," said Dhanesh Gupta, Rahul's father, who is a daily-wage labourer.
