Marathwada, in central Maharashtra, is reeling from one of the worst droughts. You may have heard of the sharp showers the region received in the last few days. But it will be of little help to the drought-stricken agrarian populace of Beed, Osmanabad and Latur, where farmers' woes are being highlighted by dna everyday.
The bounty of the retreating monsoon may have come a tad too late as standing khariff crops have already been lost. The farmers are not just worried about their children's education and daughters' marriages, but are finding it hard to have two square meals a day. And the rabi crop is still a few months away.
dna has started a campaign, 'Adopt a family', to help those affected.
Instead of lavishing money on festivals, let us help the farmer-families in their time of need. As per a rough estimate, a family of four needs Rs 3,000 a month to survive. So, draw a cheque in the name of farmers who have been profiled today and send it to:
Diligent Media Corporation Ltd, 11th Floor, Tower- 3, Indiabulls Finance Centre, Senapati Bapat Marg, Elphinstone Road (W),
Mumbai – 400013.
Here is the list of needy farmers whom the cheques will be sent to:
