The Crime Branch has decided to put Sunil Paraskar, the senior police officer accused of rape, through the lie detector test and it has sought the permission of the court for this.

Police commissioner Rakesh Maria confirmed this on Thursday saying, "We have moved the local court seeking permission to subject Paraskar to a lie detector test. When we get the permission we will get it done," maria said.

In a related development on Thursday, Kalpana Chavan, chief public prosecutor told the court, hearing Paraskar's application for anticipatory bail, that he was not co-operating with the investigating agency.

The 57-year-old deputy general of police has been booked under sections 376(2) (rape by a police officer), 376(C) (intercourse by superintendent of jail, etc) and 354(D) (stalking) following a complaint by a model. The case was registered by the Malwani last week.

The model accused Paraskar of sexually assault on various occasions between November 2013 and March 2014, when he was then additional commissioner of police (north region).

The Crime Branch, on Thursday, also recorded the supplementary statement of Paraskar and as part of its efforts to collect evidence it wants to take the help of forensics.

Rizwan Merchant, who is representing Paraskar, said, "We received a letter from the police on Wednesday stating that they want to subject my client to a lie detector test, but he is not medically fit. Paraskar underwent a bypass surgery last week and if he is to undergo a lie detector test he would have to stay of medication for a week. So we will refuse to take the test."

Meanwhile, the model has in a supplementary statement to the police said Paraskar had gifted her a watch (worth Rs67,575), perfume (costing Rs33,000), a pen (costing Rs21,600) and a wallet (Rs5,000).

"We have given enough proof to the police like messages where the he has abused the victim," said Chitra Salunke, who is representing the model. "There are calls records which show Paraskar's wife called the victim, telling her not to meet police commissioner when she approached the police chief to intervene in the matter."
