Devendra Fadnavis like Nero on farmer suicides: NCP leader

Comparing chief minister Devendra Fadnavis with Roman emperor Nero, NCP leader Jayant Patil on Tuesday said that chief minister Devendra Fadnavis was waiting for the prime minister's orders when farmers in the state were committing suicide.

Making his speech on the farmers' distress and suicides during the discussion on the topic in the state assembly. The House started a debate on Monday evening after the passage of bills. On Monday night the House was adjourned for the day. After Tuesday's question hour and discussion on supplementary demands, the discussion on agrarian crisis resumed in the House.

Jayant Patil pointed out that while farmers were facing the worst ever crisis, the government was indifferent to them. He said that chief minister Fadnavis was behaving like Roman emperor Nero who was said to have just waited when Rome was burning. He alleged that the Opposition is pressing for a complete loan waiver,

Shiv Sena MLA Arjun Khotkar pointed out that despite being in power, the government has meted out step-motherly treatment to Shiv Sena MLAs. He added that while works worth crores were undertaken in the constituencies represented by BJP MLAs, Sena MLAs hardly get projects worth a few lakhs. Initiating the debate, leader of opposition Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil demanded complete loan waiver for farmers, saying that it was the only solution to bring down suicides. NCP leader Ajit Pawar demanded providing supplementary income to farmers.
