Stating that state government is concerned about the drought situation in 180 talukas of the state, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis informed that his government has prepared a detailed plan to face the drought situation. He also promised to provide water to all the drought hit-villages till July next year.

In an informal chat with a few journalists at Varsha bungalow, Fadnavis claimed that his tenure of four years in office has proved that it was better than 15-year rule of previous Congress-NCP Government. Fadnavis will complete four years in office on Wednesday (October 31).

While the state cabinet has given its nod to declare drought-like situation in 180 talukas of 31 districts of the state, Fadnavis stated that his government has already prepared a detailed plan to combat the situation.

Almost 18 thousand villages are facing a drought-like situation. The state government has prepared a detailed list of these villages and has marked the villages which would face severity by December, claimed Fadnavis. While a few villages would face drought severity between December and March, some would face it between March and June 2019, he added. "Accordingly, we have made arrangements to provide water and relief to these villages. Water sources have also been identified in the vicinity of these villages," said Fadnavis.

In addition, to prepare a plan to combat drought, Fadnavis said that there are 5 to 6 thousand villages where work for piped water supply is going on. He said that he has given directions to speed up work for these pipelines so that the drought situation can be faced effectively.

Fadnavis informed that Jayakwadi dam, the lifeline of Marathwada, has just 49 per cent stock and if water is released to Jayakwadi from upstream areas, it would be helpful for medium and small projects.

The state government is committed to combat drought situation and for that, it would provide money, drinking water, food-grains, health services and whatever is necessary, he promised.
