Design out for port land makeover

Project includes creation of an international destination for tourism and commercial activities with smart infrastructure

Mumbai Port Trust’s (MbPT) board gave nod to M/s HCP Design, Planning, & Management Pvt. Ltd Ahmedabad along with M/s Pricewater Cooper Pvt Ltd and M/s Unity Consultancy Pvt. Ltd on Tuesday to prepare the master plan for the development of waterfront landscape for recreation, tourism and commercial activities. 

Taking into consideration need for lung space, marina, sea front walkways, promenades, water sports, plazas, floating restaurants, public transport such as roads, water, metrorail, parking places, cycling tracks, entertainment hubs, heritage tourism places, theatres, convention centre, marine museum, etc. an international destination for recreation, tourism along with mixed land use with world class smart infrastructure will be created. 

This move will unlock commercial value of port land, which is currently untapped.

“The consultant will start the work immediately and the draft master plan for about 500 hectares of area should be ready within next six months. The detailed master plan for an area of about 165 hectares is expected in the next nine months. The total consultancy period is 42 months,” said Sanjay Bhatia, Chairman of MbPT.
