Govt asks MU to start parallel revaluation process, check feasibility of declaring partial results
As the evaluation and result declaration at the University of Mumbai continues at a snail's pace, the government has now asked the university to take measures to ensure that results are not delayed any further.
A meeting of top government officials was convened by Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao at Raj Bhavan on Friday morning. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, State Education Minister Vinod Tawde and Minister of State for Higher Education Ravindra Waikar were part of a review meeting with the top university officials to take stock of the situation.
State education minister Vinod Tawde said that the government would ensure that no student loses out on higher education opportunities due to the delay.
"The university has been asked to start a parallel revaluation process so that students won't have to wait or lose out on their admissions elsewhere. The government has also directed the university to check the feasibility of declaring partial results of some streams depending on the completion of evaluation. If 96 per cent papers of a particular subject have been assessed, it might be a good idea to declare the results of these students after which the remaining results can be declared" said Tawde. He said that if there are more eligible students, the government might think of adding seats if the need arises. The government has decided to extend the dates of several postgraduate courses so that students do not suffer.
Over the last 10 days, the assessment rate for papers has drastically gone down with close to 1.5 lakh papers yet to be evaluated.
"A meeting of the Board of Exams (BoE) will take place soon in which a policy will be decided for partial declaration of results.
As per the existing policy maximum 10 per cent results of a subject can be kept in reserve while declaring results" said a senior MU official.
