The don't-care attitude of the Nalasopara police has once again come to the fore. On Monday they turned away a Wadala resident after the Dadar court issued warrant against a builder in a cheque-bouncing case. The police allegedly neglected the order to arrest and produce the accused twice, and apparently asked the complainant to trace the builder and bring him to them.

Ramkumar Gupta, 29, a resident of Wadala, purchased a room at Santosh Bhuvan in Nalasopara East as an investment from Rajesh Patel, a builder, and paid Rs 1.24 lakh. However, Patel failed to hand over the property and instead gave Gupta a cheque in 2010, which bounced. Gupta filed a case in Dadar metropolitan court under Negotiable Instruments Act.

"The court issued arrest warrants against Patel several times, but the police failed to produce him before the magistrate. To date, three warrants (non-bailable in nature) have been issued after he was produced in the court last December when he promised to repay the cash," said Gupta.

"When I showed the police the arrest warrant, they asked me to find Patel myself and bring him to them so that they could arrest him. They have often demanded money from me to find Patel. Senior police officials too turned me away when I tried to inform them," said Gupta.

Meanwhile, the Dadar metropolitan magistrate issued Nalasopara police show cause notice (a copy of which is with dna) slamming them saying they were not paying heed to the orders of the court, and asked them to appear before it on January 5, 2015 to show cause as to why action for criminal contempt should not be initiated against them.
