Couple jumps to death in front of a train

A young couple from Ratnagiri allegedly killed themselves by jumping in front of a running train between the Badlapur and Vangani railway stations. The Kalyan Government Railway Police (GRP) has registered an accidental death case. Meanwhile, cops probing the case claim that the couple took the extreme step because their families were opposed to their relationship.

According to the GRP, the couple — Suresh Shinde, 23 and Vrushali Lalage, 19 — were found on the tracks between Badlapur and Vangani. The motorman alerted the Badlapur station master, after which a police team located the bodies and sent it for autopsy. "The family was against their relationship, so Vrushali eloped with Suresh," said a senior GRP officer, adding, "We have registered a case of accidental death and have contacted the families. We are also taking their statements, and if we receive a complaint, will also register a case of abetment of suicide."
