A day after a 24-year-old woman was found brutally murdered at her home in Goregaon (W), the Goregaon police has filed an FIR against the woman's husband and his family. Investigations have revealed that the duo had an inter-sub community marriage and that the woman, Rubina Ashfaq Mansuri, was allegedly being harassed by the husband's family over it.
Why was the FIR filed against the husband's family?
PSI S Kesarkar of Goregaon police, said, "Primafacie, we suspect the involvement of the woman's husband and his family. We registered the FIR based on the statements given by woman's parents. The couple belonged to different sub-castes. The deceased belonged to the Qureshi community and the husband hails from the Mansuri family."
Who are the people booked?
The police has booked six people including her husband Ashfaq, his parents and three brothers.
Rubina lived with Ashfaq at an MMRDA building on Ram Mandir Road. The couple got married two months ago and shifted to the area.
Ashfaq has a spare parts business firm and while one of his brothers lived with the couple, the rest of the family lived separately.
How did her murder come to light?
On Saturday afternoon, her body was found with her throat slit. As per her husband's claims, he had returned home at 3pm and found the door latched from outside. He discovered his wife's body in a pool of blood when he opened the door and entered the drawing room. The police has ruled out robbery, as nothing had gone missing from the house.
What about evidence to support the claims?
Balsingh Rajput, DCP of Zone 11 said: "We have not found any CCTV footage evidence yet. According to the family, there was a dispute between both families over the inter-community marriage. It is too early to ascertain anybody's involvement. The FIR is based only on allegations. Investigations are on."
There were also protests in various parts of the city by Muslim activists following the brutal murder.
