10 girls who were working in a ladies bar at Panvel without naukarnamas, were arrested by the police on Wednesday.

Acting on a tip off, the police conducted a raid at Crazy Boy bar at Kon area along the old Mumbai-Goa highway and arrested the girls. 22 other girls, who were working their with proper naukarnamas issued by the excise department, were spared by the police.

"After we got to know about these girls, we formed a special team under the guidance of deputy commissioner of police Sanjay Yenpure and raided the bar. There were only only seven to eight customers there at that time," said Sunil Bajare, senior police inspector from New Panvel police station. The police however, did not find any proof of immoral activities going on inside the bar.

"There is no room attached to the bar and people come there only to drink. So, we don't think that the bar owners are involved in flesh trade or something on that line," Bajare said.

All the girls were arrested under relevant sections of Bombay police act. They were produced before the judicial court on Thursday morning. While most of the girls were from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, some them were local Maharashtrian girls

. "We have now written to the excise department, informing about such girls who are working in the city bars without any naukarnama," Bajare said. The police conducted raids at some other bars at Belapur and Nerul and arrested around 50 girls in last one month.
