The Cuffe Parade police have recently registered a case against an unknown person for allegedly for making a morphed news article that went viral on social media, targeting Minister of Rural Development Pankaja Munde. The purported news article stated that Water Conservation Minister Ram Shinde had criticised Munde and made several allegations and defamatory remarks.

According to the police, a morphed image of a news article supposedly of a Marathi newspaper with the headline “Pankaja Navhe, Meech Munde Sahebancha Rajakiya Vaarasdaar: Ram Shinde (I am the original political heir of Munde, not Pankaja: Ram Shinde)” was posted on Facebook earlier this month.

“The article was posted with the intention of creating animosity between Munde and me. A conflict has taken place between my supporters and Munde on social media after the article went viral. We later learnt that it was a bogus article. I did not say things mentioned in the article. I then immediately lodged a police complaint,” Shinde told DNA.

“We are trying to locate the Internet Protocol address used by the person. The probe is on from all angles,” a police officer said.
