Cops nab man who shot at auto driver in Andheri

Four days after a 51-year-old auto driver was shot at by two accused, the Andheri police detection team nabbed the main accused who fired two bullets on Vitthal Sutrave on Friday. The arrested accused has been identified as Amjad Ismail Mujavar (36) — a resident of Gundavali.

Four days after a 51-year-old auto driver was shot at by two accused, the Andheri police detection team nabbed the main accused who fired two bullets on Vitthal Sutrave on Friday. The arrested accused has been identified as Amjad Ismail Mujavar (36) — a resident of Gundavali.

According to the police, on Friday around 10pm, when Sutrave dropped his passengers near Rahat medical store in Andheri (East), he was waiting for his next passenger. It was then Mujavar along with his friend came to the spot and demanded money from Sutrave.

Sutrave later got into a heated argument with the duo following which Mujavar fired five rounds at him, of which two went to hit Sutrave. Mujavar and his friend later fled from the spot.

On receipt of a tip-off, Mujavar was nabbed on Tuesday. "We suspect that Mujavar shot at Sutrave due to some past dispute they had," said a police officer.

"Mujavar has admitted to the crime and we are yet to seize the weapon used in the crime. Mujavar has at least 20 complaints registered against him. We are also trying to nab Mujavar's associate. He has been charged for attempt to murder among other charges. He is under police custody till May 30." said senior police inspector of Andheri police station Pandit Thorat.

Sutrave is currently admitted to Cooper Hospital where his condition is said to be stable.
